Keep Politics Out of the Office
I’ve never been a political person. My entire life, I have been widely known and respected for being a nonpartisan leader who ignored politics and instead focused on doing what’s right for the people of Lake County.
The only thing our elected officials should be focused on is doing what’s right for working families. As Lake County Clerk, I worked with both Republicans and Democrats—party didn’t matter because my job was to serve the community, not a political party. I never even considered instituting political loyalty tests or firing staff due to their political leanings.
Unfortunately, our current circuit clerk has brought Cook County style politics into Lake County. She fired 3 employees because they had supported her political opponent, leading to a jury awarding these employees $2.6 million for being wrongfully terminated. Lake County taxpayers are paying that cost.
The Circuit Court Clerk’s office should be an apolitical government service that fulfills 2 obligations: provide Lake County residents timely, accurate, and excellent customer service and ensure all county judicial systems and county board are receiving what they need to keep our county functioning. Politics should play no role in the office.
As Lake County Circuit Clerk, I will get politics out of this office. Our staff and residents will once again be able to trust that this office is focused on public service, not politics.
